Growing Apart Number One Reason for Divorce in England

A study conducted by family divorce lawyers concluded that the number one reason why couples divorce is that they "grow apart".

The firm also learned other important statistics about marriages in England and Wales since 1974. They found that the rate of divorce had reached its lowest point since 1974, but this was also due to the fact that less people were opting to get married. Those that wanted to get divorced were waiting to do so until the economy has recovered, while other couples intending to marry were more likely to sign prenuptial agreements.

Since the study began in 2003, this was the first year that the reason for divorce changed. In the previous years, couples listed extramarital affairs as the primary reason. This year, however, more and more couples spoke about simply falling out of love with their partners. Nearly 27% interviewed in this study listed "growing apart" as the primary reason for divorce in their clients.
