Children of Divorce More Likely to Binge Drink

While it is no secret that the way in which you parent your children will seriously affect their futures, but those parents who are divorced have to be extra cautious, according to the results of one British think tank.

The results of a think tank study were revealed earlier this month and they are surprising. Based on data collected for 30,000 children over the past 40 years, researchers found multiple trends. One such trend shows that children of "disengaged parents" were 40 percent more likely to take up binge drinking. In fact, children of divorced parents were overall more likely to develop bad drinking behaviors later on in life.

While this does not mean that divorce has an absolute causal relation to binge drinking, it is something to be aware of in your own children. If you have recently been divorced and think that your child might have a problem, it is best to address it now before it becomes serious.

Going through a tough divorce?  Now is the right time to call a family law attorney who can make the process easier for you and any children that may be involved.
