Mother Charged with Felonies for Failing to Pay Child Support

In Marshall, Missouri, a criminal summons was issued for a woman that failed to pay her child support. The woman, 39 year old Billie J. Weathers, was charged with two counts of nonsupport. In the state of Missouri, the offenses are considered Class D felonies.

In a probable cause statement, it is written that Weathers was ordered to pay $325 in child support each month for her two minor children. However, as of June 30th, the total that she owed exceeded one year worth of payments.

If she is convicted of her crimes, she will face up to four years in prison and a fine of $5,000 per count.

Paying child support is a responsibility that many parents must undertake. If you fall behind on your payments, you can face harsh legal penalties. Instead of doing nothing, hire a family law attorney whenever you are having problems making support payments. This will ensure that you deal with your legal matters promptly.
