Man Gets 5 Years for Failure to Pay

A Mississippi man was sentenced to five years in jail in state custody for failing to pay child support.

The case, which was heard by a Circuit Court judge this week, involved a father who had been charged with felony non-support of his child. In addition to the five years he will have to spend imprisoned - four under house arrest, one year supervised probation - he will have to pay $150 per month, in addition to his scheduled payments of $550. In total, the man owes $60,000 in back payments. Since the man has a solid job, the Attorney General stated that he should have no difficulty making those monthly payments. Should he fail to do so, he could face hard jail time, rather than house arrest.

When you are having trouble getting the child support that you need, it is time to contact a helpful family law attorney.
