Tulsa Approves Domestic Violence Bill

Victims of domestic violence cheered last week as the Senate in Tulsa unanimously approved a bill to protect them even further.

This new bill demands that courts schedule a full hearing within 14 days of a person filing a protective order, rather than the current standard of 20 days. In addition the bill asks that the courts provide extra consideration for the victim's safety when setting bonds on violators of protective orders.

Although there are many victims who will benefit from this new law, this bill was inspired by a constituent in Senator Don Barrington's region. This woman's daughter was fatally wounded by her husband even though she had filed a restraining order against him. Barrington told the media that "My bill will help speed up the court process ensuring that victims of this type of abuse get the protection they need sooner."

Are you a victim of domestic violence? Don't attempt to fight for your rights alone, hire a family law attorney who can protect you and your best interests.
