County Seeks Out Child Support Offenders

Counties around the country are cracking down on individuals who fail to make their child support payments. Officials in once county have worked with law enforcement agencies to indict six people who are seriously negligent in making their child support payments.

According to the assistant prosecutor in charge of the case, the six charged individuals owe a total amount of $81,000 in back support. Each year the county works to charge individuals that have failed to make a certain amount of child support payments. The sheriff's department works with the county prosecutor and the child support division to locate and serve warrants to these individuals.

Over a period of two day the county collected $7,400 as part of their program. These parents are given a chance to either pay the amount they owe or to go before a judge and receive a possible jail sentence.
