County to Build Emergency Domestic Violence Shelter

Good news for victims in Glenn County: an emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence will soon be built by the county.

The property, which has been held in escrow for one year, has now been approved to house the shelter that will be operated by the Westside Domestic Violence organization. It will open its doors to women and children who become victims of domestic violence and abuse. However, the public will not be given its address as it will serve as an emergency shelter.

According to Scott Greundl, the director of Health Services, the California Department of Housing and Community Development is financing the project with a ten-year loan. As long as the property is in use as a shelter at the end of that term, the unpaid portion of the loan will be forgiven. The county does not have any type of shelter, making this big news for domestic violence victims and survivors.
