Two Men Sentenced for Failure to Pay

Judge Michael Dodge of the Cass County Circuit Court did not provide any leniency to two men who owed thousands of dollars in back payments in Cassopolis. The first man, Lamond Presswood, 35, was given three year probation with the first 270 to be spent in the county jail. Alton Smith, 37, who had already spent 51 days in jail, was also given three years probation with no credits given for time already spent in jail.

Judge Dodge did point out that the two men had attempted in the past to pay their payments but had recently neglected to do so, nor had they come close to paying the entire amount. While Smith had payed off $34,108 in 244 installments prior to his arrest, he hadn't made a single payment to date during this year. He still owes $20,000 for his children. Lamond Presswood had paid $6000 for child support for his two children over the past two years, he still owes more than $32,000.
