Nevada Governor's Divorce Official

On Wednesday of this week, it was announced that a Reno judge signed the divorce decree for Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons and his former wife, Dawn.  The termination of the first couple's marriage is now official.

Gibbons is the very first sitting Governor in the state of Nevada to obtain a divorce.  Gibbons, a Republican, will not be returning to the Governor's mansion next year because he lost the primary election to former federal judge Brian Sandoval. 

In December, Gibbons and his former wife has reached a tentative divorce settlement, but still continued to argue over some issues.  Judge Frances Doherty told the couple that she felt both they and their lawyers were capable of resolving issues, such as the division of political memorabilia, on their own.

When interviewed by reporters regarding his recent divorce, Governor Gibbons said, "Nobody is happy about today."
