Reality Star Reacts to Learning of Impending Divorce via Twitter

A reality star that relied on Twitter to quell rumors of a possible divorce from her former NFL husband, later learned from Twitter that her husband had filed for divorce, as reported by ABC News and several other media outlets.

Porsha Stewart, featured on "Real Housewives of Atlanta", found out that her husband of two years, ex-NFL player Kordell Stewart, had filed for divorce while the two were still residing in the same home.

Porsha Stewart told reporters, "I literally was lying in bed and I looked at Twitter and it was going crazy. I saw on Twitter that my husband has filed for divorce." Stewart allegedly looked for him in the home, and simply asked him what was happening.

Stewart continued, "It wasn't a confrontation. It was me just simply asking my husband, 'Had you filed?,' which seemed crazy coming out of my mouth. He said he thought about it and we'll talk about it later and he left for work. I had to call my attorney to find out."

Kordell Stewart filed for divorce on March 22, though Porsha Stewart had described their marriage to be "picture perfect" during the opening show of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" taped just days before.

Porsha Stewart added, "I feel heartbroken and at times I feel ashamed. Because I put myself out there to the world as a wife and I was proud to be married and for it to end the way it did, it's almost like a failure in a way…but I do know that God has more for me."

In their two-year union the Stewarts presented a star-powered marriage. Porsha Stewart, beginning a career as a philanthropist, is the granddaughter of Hosea Williams, a Civil Rights pioneer. Kordell Stewart was a quarterback with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Porsha Stewart, appearing on a recent airing of "Real Housewives" said, "I married him. We took an oath in front of everyone and, to me, I am going to represent that to the world, to the fullest."

However, issues about the couple having children and who would stay home to take care of them, was often a heated topic on the program prompting cast mates to say that Kordell Stewart was controlling.

Another Atlanta housewife from the show, NeNe Leaks, wrote about the Stewarts on her Bravotv.com blog saying, "I personally view a marriage as an equal partnership. I think you should treat each other with respect, consider each other's needs, and support one another's dreams and goals and work together as a team. I will never talk to Porsha about her relationship again, but if she ever wants to talk to me, I'm here!"

Porsha Stewart said that her cast mates' opinions of her marriage caused a strain, but not a rupture. She commented, "They called him controlling and that was hard for me to deal with. I will not blame this divorce on anyone but the person who filed, and that is my ex."

Kordell Stewart said the marriage was "irretrievably broken" in court papers. In regards to spousal support, he stated that his ex-wife is "an able-bodied person, earning income and is capable of supporting herself."

In a counter-filing Porsha Stewart asked for alimony and use of the couple's Atlanta mansion. She concluded, "Really what I want is what's fair, whatever that might be. I just want to be happy. I know that, at the end of the day, he probably didn't deserve me. I feel like I still have a chance to have it all but maybe just a little different this time."
