Kansas May Change Child Support Payment Calculations

After reviewing the cost of living and raising a child over the past few years, the Kansas Supreme Court may decide to raise child support payments for parents in the state.

The last adjustments were made to child support payment laws in 2008, and an advisory committee appointed by the state has decided that an increase needs to be made. This will allow for an increase in the cost of living, helping those parents who are the primary caretakers of their children. While all parents can expect an increase in their payments if the Supreme Court agrees to the modifications, those parents of children ages 6 to 11 can expect the highest increases.

However, these changes will only apply to parents that are seeking a modification in child support orders or to new divorce cases. Those with existing child support orders will not be affected by the change unless they seek a modification in their orders.
