Understanding Massachusetts Alimony Reform Act

If you pay or intend to pay alimony in Massachusetts then you need to be familiar with the new proposed state Alimony Reform Act.

The bill was filed back in January 2011 entitled as "An Act To Improve and Reform Alimony" in the Massachusetts Senate. The primary purpose of this bill is to provide more equity to both parties in an alimony relationship, the spouse that needs support and the spouse that will be providing it. Some legal experts believe that this bill is unique and could affect other states' legislature if it is passed.

Both the Women's Bar Association of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Bar Association are behind this bill, leaving many to believe that it has a good chance of passing.
