Visitation Dispute Leads to Violence

While deciding visitation may not always be an easy choice for two parents, it should never lead to violence like it did in Bay Shore, NY.

Police were called to the home of a man after gunshots were heard coming from the apartment. What they found was a shocking and saddening scene, where the man had shot his ex-girlfriend and then himself during a fight over the custody of their baby girl. While the three-month-old baby was present at the time, along with a 5-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy, police reports show that none of the children were harmed.

A third adult, the ex-girlfriend's sister, jumped from a window when she heard the gun shots. She broke her leg during the fall and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

No matter how much you fight with your former spouse/partner over personal issues, you need to try to come to an agreement regarding visitation of your children and this may be best accomplished by working with a family lawyer.
