First Child Support Warrant Issued in Small County

Oachita Parish is so small that it actually announced its first warrant issued for delinquent child support payments this week.

According to the sheriff's department, the parent in question is seriously behind on her payments. She currently owes $18,000 in child support for the past several years. While deputies believe that she currently resides in Virginia, the one address that matched her name did not have a listed phone number to reach her at.

While the law regarding delinquent child support payments was amended back in 2008, this is the first arrest warrant issued by authorities in Ouachita Parish since then. According to a Fourth Judicial District Attorney, authorities will continue their hunt for the woman and plan on extraditing her once she has been located.

Have you been accused of failure to pay child support?  If so, it is important that you take the time to discuss your legal options with a family law attorney who can help you take appropriate action and avoid penalties, like jail time.
