Facebook Used for Malicious Purposes

While Facebook has been cited as a terrific tool for bringing long lost friends and loved ones together, it is often used for more malicious purposes.

A recent police report showed that a 32-year-old man became so enraged after his girlfriend left him, that he began harassing her on the social networking site. When the man saw that his ex-girlfriend had become friends with a Turkish man on a recent holiday, he began posting racist and otherwise unfriendly comments on the man's wall.

His ex, concerned about the behavior, immediately called police to report his actions. When confronted by officers, the man admitted that he had been harassing her on Facebook. As a result, he was charged with aggravated assault; he later pleaded guilty to the charge and was given nine months of suspended prison time. In addition, the judge gave the offender a restraining order that prevents all contact with his ex-girlfriend. It didn't help that the man already had a record of assaulting his ex-girlfriend, prompting the judge to order the man to enter a domestic violence program.

If you're a victim of domestic violence, it is important that you speak with a family lawyer who can help you stop the abuse.
