County Busy with Child Support Warrants

For a relatively small county, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has been kept busy each month with child support warrants.

County officials report that an average of 30 arrest warrants are issued each month for individuals who have failed to make their child support payments. For example, a warrant was issued last month for a 53-year-old father who was found to be negligent in his payments to the tune of $11,000. This was just for one of his ex-wives, of which he has two that he pays child support to each month. When he went before the judge this week, he spoke about tough economic times making it difficult for him to make his payments on time.

Even when the former husband spoke about seeking work opportunities in Texas, local officials worked hard to obtain an arrest warrant before he could leave the state. Since the state cannot extradite individuals for failure to pay child support, it was important to apprehend him before he crossed state lines.

Are you owed child support payments?  If so, now is the right time to enlist the services of a family law attorney in your state.
