Illinois Gets Child Support Enforcement Help

In Lake County, the state's attorney's office has received help in its efforts to keep child support payments consistent throughout the county.

Michael Waller, the State's Attorney, said he was recently notified that the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services will increase efforts to cover nearly all expenses of his child support enforcement unit in the upcoming year.

According to Waller, IDHFS will give $992,226 of the unit's $1.1 million budget for the year, with the balance paid from local revenue sources. Currently, the unit is comprised of three assistant state's attorneys, four secretaries, three paralegals and an investigator.

The unit is responsible for handling 17,000 cases a year, including those involving the establishment of paternity, setting support amounts and enforcing orders for child support payments.

If you need immediate assistance with a child support related matter, now is the right time to seek help from a family law attorney.
