Courtney Love Loses Custody of Daughter

Troubled singer Courtney Love has finally lost custody of her 17-year-old daughter Frances Bean Cobain.

Frances' father is deceased Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain, who famously committed suicide in 1994.

Until recently Love, who has very publicly battled drug addition, maintained guardianship and custody of her only daughter.

On Friday, the courts granted guardianship of Frances Bean to Cobain's mother and sister, Wendy O'Connor and Kimberly Dawn Cobain.

Guardianship is awarded when the parents of a child are no longer capable of providing adequate care.  In this case, it is likely that Love's addiction to drugs is what ultimately caused the courts to remove Frances from her care and grant guardianship to Cobain's family. However, the court files have been sealed, so the details of the case are not available to the public.

If you are interested in petitioning for guardianship of a child, it is important to work with an experienced attorney who can guide you through the legal process, advise you of your legal rights and best options, and make sure the appropriate paperwork is filled out correctly.  To learn more, click here to find a family law attorney near you!
