Mother Charged with DUI Involving Children

By Meyers Law Group, PC  Jan. 16, 2012 4:20p

Police were called to a car collision repair shop just after reports were made that the driver had been driving while intoxicated with two young children in the car. The driver, a Long Island woman, had made an illegal left turn from a northbound lane and crossed the double yellow lines dividing traffic. She then collided into the pylons that lined a canal alongside the southbound side of the road.

The police arrived at the location where the car had been taken after the incident and took the 36-year-old mother of two into custody for DUI. The woman had been driving with her 1-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son. Both children were secured in car seats in the backseat and were not injured in the incident. Their mother, also uninjured, was arrested and charged with Driving While Ability Impaired, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and two counts of felony Driving While Intoxicated with a Child. The children were released into the custody of a relative while the woman awaits arraignment for the charges. If your current or former spouse has acted in a manner that you feel requires legal recourse in the area of family law, speak with a Long Island divorce attorney as soon as possible.
