The Need for Modifications Can Arise at Any Time

By Hanson, Hales, Gorian & Bradford  Feb. 15, 2011 1:05p

Life is not always a smooth road; unexpected things can happen requiring that changes be made and this can apply just as well to divorce agreements.  Modification is sometimes necessary to a divorce agreement that has already been approved in the courts. You may have a certain amount of money you pay for  child or  spousal support and circumstances have changed requiring a modification in the agreement. Perhaps a  child custody situation has to be modified due to a parent moving to another location. Following a few of the more common reasons for modifications:

Common Reasons for Modifications

  • One partner loses a job or gets a reduction in pay
  • One partner gets an increase in pay
  • An injury, medical emergency or illness occurs affecting the income of a partner
  • A parent has to relocate to another area
  • A change in a child's needs or expenses
  • A discovery of a non-optimum situation (like drug or alcohol abuse) with a parent who has custody

Arranging a Modification

If you are in the Riverside area and are in need of a modification, you should consult with a  Riverside divorce attorney to guide you through the correct procedure. Modifications need to be detailed, correctly worded and precise if you wish to protect your interests and the interests of your other family members.
