Ignored Domestic Violence Protection Request Ends in Homicide

By Claery & Green  Jan. 10, 2011 3:46p

Domestic violence disputes are common place in most states, however, the more extreme ones can end up in disaster if proper precautions are not taken. The following incident which happened in Arizona near the end of last year is an example of what can occur if not enough protection is provided to a domestic violence situation.

Resulting Homicide

Twenty-six-year-old Dawn Axsom of Peoria Arizona had tried to convince Judge Jose Padilla of Maricopa County to allow her and her two year old son to leave the state after receiving threats from Gabriel Schwartz, the father, but her request was denied. The judge ordered them to attend counseling instead.

Two weeks later she was murdered in her home along with her mother; Schwartz was found as well, apparently turning the gun on himself after slaying the two women. After Dawn did not show up for work, a friend went to the house to discover the tragedy and called police. The two year old boy was found upstairs crying in his crib.
