Murdered Woman’s Parents Granted Guardianship of Grandchild

By Ardalan & Associates  Jan. 3, 2012 2:36p

The family of a local woman who was murdered appeared in court recently to request guardianship of the woman's 13-year-old daughter.  The woman, K.S., was reported missing on Thanksgiving Day by her boyfriend.  Her body was discovered the next day in an undeveloped area of the county.   Investigators believe that she was attacked in the parking lot of her condominium by her ex-boyfriend the night before Thanksgiving.  She had filed for a temporary restraining order against him in early November stating that he had been stalking her.   The order required that he not come within 100 yards of her or her daughter.

The surviving daughter's grandparents, aunts and uncles requested that a Superior Court judge grant them guardianship of the girl.  She and her mother had lived with the grandparents for seven years at one time in her life and the judge agreed that temporary guardianship should be awarded.  The girl's father told the judge that he would not be contesting the order.  The family was elated to be given custody but said little about the criminal case against the slain woman's ex-boyfriend who is accused of strangling her to death and dumping the body in a remote area.  If you have a family law issue or have questions about your rights to custody or guardianship, you should speak with a San Diego divorce lawyer right away.
