Nine Parents Arrested for Deliquent Child Support

Law enforcement agencies across the country are working hard to capture delinquent parents. In Lubbock County last week, nine parents were taken into custody on multiple charges of failure to make child support payments. Over a period of two days, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office worked with the Child Support Division of the Texas Attorney General's office to serve the warrants. In the state of Texas, violating a child support order is punishable under law. The offender can receive up to six months behind bars for missing payments, even if that person is not able to make the payments due to financial hardship.

Any cash bonds that were collected during the warrant sweep were turned over to the custodial parents to start paying back the debts. The Attorney General's office was responsible for collecting over $66 million in child support during the past fiscal year, with help from several supporting agencies. If you are owed child support payments, now is the right time to speak with a family law attorney near you!
