Eight Teams Serve Child Support Warrants in One County

Sheriffs in Calcasieu County worked overtime last week to serve 135 warrants. All of these warrants were for parents who are negligent in making their child support payments. The total amount owed by these parents is over $2 million. Last weekend, eight teams of deputies were dispatched with the warrants all over the county. The goal was to catch these parents early in the morning as they were heading to work. Since all of these parents have been given warnings about their late child support payments, they may already have been using evasive measures to avoid not only making the payments, but being caught as well.

Those parents that were arrested were then brought to the Office of Child Support Enforcement. Case workers spent time with each parent, asking them if they could pay a minimum amount towards their overall debt. If they could not or refused to, the parent was then taken to jail.
