Dennis Quaid Divorce: Third Time in Not the Charm

Over the course of the week ending March 11, many news sources such as the Times Union, along with numerous tabloids, reported on the divorce filing made by movie actor Dennis Quaid’s third wife, Kimberly Buffington Quaid.

Citing that the seven year long marriage had “become insupportable because of discord or conflict of personalities” Buffington Quaid filed the divorce papers on March 2 in Travis County, Texas. Allegedly she used initials, B.K. for herself and W.D. for Quaid – William is Quaid’s middle name.

In the case two addresses listed in temporary orders match up to those listed as Austin residences for Buffington Quaid.

References were also made about two children, born in 2007 – and are presumed to be their twins Zoe and Thomas.

Representatives from WKT Public Relations, Lisa Kasteler and Cara Tripicchio, issued this statement on behalf of their client Quaid, “We can confirm that Kimberley Quaid has filed for divorce. Contrary to what has been reported, a satisfactory settlement is being worked out for both parties” and nothing else was to be said “on this private matter.”

Court documents note that Buffington Quaid is seeking spousal support, attorney fees and that she is confident that she and Quaid will make an agreement in writing that will provide for “possession of, access to and support of” their twin children.

On March 2 a temporary order regarding the twins had been agreed on. Buffington Quaid is to continue to be allowed use of the home in Austin, a Mercedes, and share a Range Rover that she currently has in her possession.

Quaid is to remain at a separate residence and maintain possession of a Cadillac Escalade.

The couple was recently photographed together arm in arm on January 16, 2011, when they attended the Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills, Calif.
It was not the first time the couple made headlines. Upon the birth of their twin boys in 2007, the newborns barely escaped death due to a medication mix-up while in the hospital: The babies were given an overdose of heparin, a blood thinner.

While the couple’s grief was national news, Quaid spearheaded a medical malpractice suit and a campaign for change. In 2010, three years after the children had survived, Quaid told reporters, “There were 41 hours where their lives were in the balance” as he and his wife felt “shock, anger and confusion.”

A documentary titled “Chasing Zero: Winning the War on Healthcare Harm” was both produced and narrated by Quaid. The hospital, according to documents made public, settled with the Quaids for $500,000.

Quaid’s other failed marriages included a four-year union from 1978 to 1983 with P.J. Soles and a ten-year long union from 1991 to 2001 to movie actress Meg Ryan.
