Georgia Sees Record High Child Support Payments

Counties across the country are working hard to collect child support payments from parents that are seriously negligent. While some counties have seen relatively steady payments over the past year, two counties in Georgia have seen a record high in payments.

Information released by one center shows that Cobb and Georgia counties saw an increase in child support payments over the past few years. In 2009 parents in these two counties owed $35.1 billion; just $21.4 billion of that was actually collected. This amounts to 63 percent of what was owed for the year.

The following year saw a slight increase in collection. County officials were able to collect $31.5 million for Cobb County, $3.3 million more than was collected the previous year. Georgia County also experienced a slight increase from the previous year. While these figures represent an improvement in collection methods, it should not go unmissed that hundreds of parents are going without the money they need to raise their children properly.

Are you owed past-due child support? If so, don't wait to discuss your legal options with a family lawyer.
