Clayton Approves Domestic Partnership Registry

After months of discussing the proposition, aldermen in Clayton have approved a registry for domestic partnership. This registry is available to both heterosexual and homosexual couples for the small fee of $50. Clayton joins several other cities in the state in creating a domestic partnership registry. This will allow couples that do not wish to be married to gain some of the same rights as married couples. For example, these couples can now gain access to city-owned facilities as a "family members". Local businesses can also include domestic partners as recipients of health care plans.

In order to qualify for the registry, you must prove that you have been living with your partner for at least six months. You must be each other's only partner and are not married to one another or to someone else. If one or both parties wish to end their domestic partnership, they can be removed from the registry for a nominal fee. If you would like to enter into a domestic partnership, speak with a family law attorney about the process and eligibility requirements in your state of residence.
