Divorce Battle Ensues Over Home

The troubles of divorce battles are not limited to the young, as is the case for a 72-year-old woman in Azalea Park who is trying to stay in her own home.

According to the divorce documents filed in court earlier this month, the woman has been ordered to leave her house. Since the property is owned by her estranged husband, he has the power to demand that she leave immediately. This has shocked many who have known the woman as a friend or neighbor; she has lived in the house for almost 30 years, while her husband has been absent for twenty.

To make matters worse, the woman had made the mortgage payments for almost twenty years since her husband was incarcerated during that time. Yet since the deed is in his name, the judge had to enforce his wishes to evacuate his wife. The judge went on to say that the house should be repaired and sold, after which the assets would be divided equally between them.

If you want to remain in possession of certain property or assets after your divorce, you'll want to work with a family law attorney who can make sure your valuables stay yours.
