Tips for Domestic Violence Victims

Are you a victim of domestic violence? Are you worried that your partner/spouse may attack you again? Consider these tips for the next time he/she is having a violent episode.

Your first concern should be about protecting yourself and escaping. In order to do this, you need to stay away from areas that contain possible weapons, such as the kitchen. You should also try to avoid small or confined areas like closets and bathrooms. Start moving towards a door or window, even if it is not on the first floor.

If you can make it to a room with a phone, dial 911 immediately. If you are able to escape, run immediately to a friend's house or neighbor's house.

Do not let your attacked inside that home, stay inside and wait for the police to come. Do not be afraid to tell your story to the police when they arrive as you may need them to write a full report so that you can file for a restraining order against your attacker in the near future.

Finally, after domestic abuse has occurred, seek the help of a family lawyer who can protect you from future violence.
