Respecting Child Custody Arrangements

No matter how difficult the path to your child custody agreement may have been, you need to respect the final outcome as approved by a judge.

You may be tempted to fight with your spouse about the settlement, but in doing so, you may do more damage than you are aware of. Rather than focus on your disappointment, realize that the judge has taken into consideration what is best for your child given both yours and your spouse's circumstances. Accept the settlement and start to enact what is necessary to make it happen and assume that your former spouse/partner will do the same.

If you are the parent that has been awarded full custody, you need to understand what this entails. You will be responsible for every aspect of your child's life, but that does not mean that he/she should not have contact with the other parent. You need to work with your spouse, regardless of ill feelings, to make the transition as easy as possible for your child.

If you have questions about your child custody agreement, take the time to speak with a family lawyer near you.
