Husband Beats Wife During Child Support Hearing

A child support meeting went from bad to worse when a husband started to beat his own wife in the judge's chambers.

According to CNN, Paul Gonzalez had just finished a particularly difficult custody hearing with his wife, Catherine Scott-Gonzalez, when he decided to return to the judge's chambers. It was then that he started to beat his wife in front of Judge Ronald Rothschild, who said that, "The incident was disturbing and shocking. In addition to the violence, the fact is that it happened in a court proceeding."

As a result, Scott-Gonzalez walked away with a broken nose and jaw while her husband was arrested by bailiffs in the Broward County Circuit Court. After the incident, she went on to tell officers that she has tried twice to get a restraining order against her husband, to no avail. She had hoped that the court room would be a safe enough place to discuss the issue of child support, but found that not to be the case.

What set Gonzalez off? When Judge Rothschild told him that he would have to pay child support. He is now being held in lieu of $1 million bail.
