Woman Committed Robbery to Pay Child Support

In a bizarre turn of events a woman will spend six years in prison after committing a robbery to pay off the child support that her boyfriend owed.

Crystal M. Lowney robbed the Kernstown branch of the Bank of Clarke County last May. At that time she brandished a toy gun and handed the teller a note demanding money. With the money in hand Lowney then went to the Shenandoah County Courthouse to pay off her boyfriend's debts to release him from jail.

In her testimony before the court Lowney said that she didn't think about the consequences when she committed the crime. She added that "I was really stressed out and just trying to get him home." Although she claimed that the robbery "just happened," Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Andrew Robbins questioned that statement as she needed time to acquire the toy gun and write the note demanding money.

In addition to her six years spent in prison Lowney will then have five years probation after her term is completed.

If you need assistance with a child support matter, it is advised that you speak with a family law attorney.
