Families Able to Work Together to Resolve Adoption Conflict

One woman has finally won the battle to keep the three-year-old girl that she has been caring for since birth.

Stacey Doss, who works as a public relations consultant, has been the adoptive mother to Vanessa who was born to a woman who had begotten her after a one-night stand.

Although she was ordered to return Vanessa to her biological family Doss filed an appeal and was awarded a stay to keep the baby. The settlement on Monday ends the legal tug-of-war, granting full custody to Doss and visitation rights to her grandmother. However, this is contingent on Doss withdrawing her adoption petition. At this time the paperwork has not been signed yet, meaning that the arrangement is not yet finalized.

Shortly after Vanessa's birth her father, Benjamin Mills Jr. filed for custody. After a DNA test proved that he was indeed the biological parent the adoption proceedings were halted. When his mother became involved Doss found herself embroiled in a three-way legal battle to keep Vanessa.

In a comment to the press Doss said that she was shocked and pleased that the two families were able to work together to come to an arrangement that would best suit Vanessa's needs.
