Chicago Authorities Arrest 80 for Unpaid Child Support

A two-week sting operation in Chicago led to the arrests of 80 men who, collectively, owe $1.7 million in unpaid child support.

45 investigators from Cook County worked together on "Operation Deadbeat Dad" to round up individuals who are seriously delinquent on their child support payments. One of the men arrested owed several hundred thousands dollars to the state. In addition to collecting information about the deadbeat fathers, the officers physically went door to door to deliver warrants.

The operation was intended to fall during the same time as Father's Day, to show that law enforcement in Cook County is serious about tracking down individuals who shirk their responsibilities. Commenting on their raid, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said that, "It's particularly troubling to think that even on Father's Day - a day intended to honor one of the two most important people in a child's life - there are men continuously shirking their responsibilities..."
