Child Support Amnesty Granted in New Mexico for a Week

If you are a parent with unpaid child support bills in the state of New Mexico, you could participate in a week long program being held this month.

Many parents who have significant amounts of unpaid child support bills will eventually find their names on arrest warrants, making them even more nervous about approaching officials to get the help they need. This week, the governor announced a week long amnesty for those who do have arrest warrants. During this time you can visit the Child Support Enforcement Division office in Albuquerque to pay off the bond for your warrant.

This program is available to those living in Sandoval, Bernalillo and Valencia counties, as these three counties alone represent a third of unpaid child support cases. In total, $3 million in outstanding payments are shared over the three counties, a figure that the governor hopes to reduce with this new initiative. Those with warrants who do not come forward, be warned: once the week of amnesty is concluded, officials will be conducting warrant sweeps.

If you owe child support and are unsure what to do, it is advised that you take the time to speak with a family lawyer in your state of residence.  Don't wait to seek legal help and guidance when it comes to this important issue.
