Man Charged with 9 Felonies for Unpaid Child Support

A word of caution to those who fail to pay child support: it could land you with nine felony charges like one man in Hager City. Christopher R. Curtis, 39, has reportedly failed to pay over $17,000 in child support since March 2007. The charges were brought against him on Monday morning in Pierce County Circuit Court.

Curtis will make his initial court appearance on Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. where he could receive a maximum of 42 months in prison and/or a penalty of $10,000 for each felony count.

The criminal complaint filed against Curtis outlines his negligence, stating that he was first asked to pay child support in Goodhue County in April 2007; the case was then moved to Wisconsin in April 2007 when the mother and children moved to that state. Since that time Curtis has only made one payment of $25.

He reportedly hasn't held steady employment throughout that time period despite being ordered to attend Children's First Order, a program that helps parents find employment.
