Creating a Parenting Plan during Divorce

Although divorce can be a difficult and emotional time for both parents and children, it can be made easier by developing a parenting plan. By agreeing to raise the children together in a supportive manner parents can keep the relationship with their children strong while providing a united front even if they aren't all living together.

A parenting plan involves many different parts that need to be discussed and agreed upon. These include arranging for security, discipline, love, shelter, food, and setting a good example of how children should act. Those who create a parenting plan need to agree upon how to provide these different things for their children, as well as setting rules, duties, chores and disciplinary measures.

Parents also need to arrive at a way to settle disagreements in a peaceful way, provide structure in their relationship with the children, how to share parental responsibilities and provide clear, consistent messages to their children. When the children reach a certain age they can also be included in the decision making process.

If you are going through a divorce and would like legal representation, it is advised that you hire a divorce attorney.
