Understanding Annulment

You may have heard about an annulment before but aren't sure exactly what it is or how you can obtain one.

When you seek an annulment you must go through the legal system to obtain one successfully. After listening to the facts of your case a court will decide if a domestic partnership or marriage is not legally valid. Although there are many different reasons why a marriage could be annulled, two common reasons are if they are determined to be bigamous or incestuous.

In other cases a marriage can be considered "void" or "voidable" if there are instances of physical or mental incapacity; force or fraud; if one of the spouses was found to have been too young to enter into a domestic partnership or marriage; or if one of the spouses was already married at the time or in another domestic partnership.

If you are seeking annulment for your marriage or domestic partnership then you need a family law attorney to ensure success.
