39 Arrested during Major Child Support Sweep

According to Sheriff Anthony Dennis 39 people were arrested in a sweep to capture those who have outstanding child support payments.

Conducted by the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, the "Dad's Day" operation was aimed at individuals who have child support debts of $600,000 or more. The captured individuals went before Family Court Judge George McFaddin to explain why they had become negligent in making payments.

In preparation for operations like these a judge will order a bench warrant for those people who have outstanding payments. The warrants are then prepared by his office and given to the Sheriff's Office to round up the guilty parties. In most cases these people will be given thirty days to one year in jail; however, each case is different and some people will not be released from jail until the full amount has been paid.
