Michigan Completes Audit of Child Support System

After completing an audit of its child support collection and distribution system, the state of Michigan learned that it passed the rigorous exam.

The audit was completed by the state's auditor general who was asked to review the Michigan Department of Human Services. This is a service provider that works under federal child support enforcement program requirements to help those who both pay and collect child support.

Auditors spent two years reviewing more than $3 billion in child support remittance to determine the department's effectiveness. In the end, the auditors also provided suggestions for improvements in areas like quality assurance sampling.

The report also showed that about 70 percent of children who are meant to get payments actually get all or a portion of them. Across the state, the average child support payment is $250 per month. Maura Corrigan, the department director, found the audit to show the department's commitment to getting financial support for the children who need it.

If you are in need of child support, now is the time to discuss your situation with a family lawyer who can help you take appropriate legal measures.
