14 Accused of Tampering with Child Support

Texas authorities have their hands full with the 14 suspect case involved diversion of funds meant for child support recipients.

One of the accused, Jose A. Serrano, pleaded guilty last week to access device fraud and aggravated identity theft. He has been ordered by U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia to pay $7,777 in restitution and to surrender himself on Nov. 30. Serrano and the others had been employed by Affiliated Computer Services where they pulled off their fraud scheme.

Together they are accused of stealing at least $275,000 from the $18.2 million contract their company had with the state to issue debit cards to Texans. Instead of issuing these cards to parents who are due child support, the accused gave them to associates, friends and family members who bought things for themselves.

Luckily the victims, those who did not receive their cards, were reimbursed by Xerox, who recently acquired ACS.
