State Representative Challenged for Supporting Domestic Partnership Rights

New sources are saying that three-term incumbent State Representative Maureen Walsh is currently facing opposition in her bid for re-election. Many say that Republicans who voted to censure her for supporting same-sex domestic partnership rights are presenting challenges.

At this time, Walsh is hoping to be re-elected for a fourth term as state representative for Walla Walla, Pasco and Kennewick. She is running against Brenda High, a longtime Republican who is well known for advocating anti-bullying legislation in states throughout the country. High started advocating anti-bullying laws after her son committed suicide in 1998 as the result of being harassed.

Walsh says she is a moderate Republican who believes in supporting equal rights for everyone including people within the gay and lesbian community. She said, "I have never identified myself as a mouthpiece for the right wing of the Republican party and I never will."

If you have questions about domestic partnerships, it is a wise idea to speak with a family law attorney.
