Two Women Fight Over Child Custody

Two women are battling over child custody after their civil union has been effectively broken. Janet Jenkins, the non-biological mother, and Lisa Miller, the biological mother, had a civil union in Vermont and later had their daughter together. The US Supreme Court recently decided that it would not hear Miller's case fighting the visitation rights that have already been granted to Jenkins.

This all occurred after the Vermont Supreme Court had already given Jenkins sole custody of the daughter to which Miller responded by absconding with the girl in January. The case has also been heard in the state of Virginia who originally had granted Jenkins visitation rights.

Don't let the dissolution of your civil union affect the amount of time you are allowed to see or keep your child for. If you are fighting with your civil partner over the custody of your child, it is time to enlist a family law attorney to bring the law on your side.
