Child Support Sweep Nets Hundreds of Arrests

A sting operation in the Northshore are of Louisiana has bagged more than 100 arrests of individuals charged with failure to make child support payments. The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office is responsible for rounding up people with outstanding warrants for writing bad checks and neglecting to make payments.

It was all part of the initiative, dubbed "Show Me the Money", where the citizens in question were sent phony letters offering them money from a fake agency. 900 letters were sent out from the "Louisiana Recovery Directive", each offering a different dollar amount. Sheriff Jack Strain commented that "if all of the checks were paid and all of the child support paid, it would represent in just that target [of 3.8 million]".

The District Attorney's Office and the Sheriff's Office will continue their fight to bring in individuals with outstanding warrants. They are urging those who know about their own warrants to contact the DA's office immediately.

If you're having a hard time making child support payments, protect yourself by getting a family law attorney involved now.
