Shaq Splits from Wife, Heading to Divorce Court

Basketball superstar Shaquille O'Neal is the latest celebrity heading to divorce court.

The Cleveland Cavaliers center is splitting from his wife "Shaunie" after six years and 11 months of marriage.

Va'Shaundya O'Neal filed for legal separation from "Shaq" with intent to file for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

The paperwork was filed in a Los Angeles courthouse on Monday. Because California is a "no fault" state, it is not necessary to prove that one or both spouses were somehow at fault for the dissolution of the marriage.

Shaunie is seeking an unspecified amount in  spousal support and child support, and is asking for full legal custody of the couple's four children.

This is not the first time the O'Neals have experienced marital troubles.  In 2007 they separated for a period of time because Shaunie believed her husband was hiding money from her.

Rumors speculate that the reason Shuanie finally filed for divorce is because Shaq was allegedly having an affair with the fiancé of a Gilbert Arenas, a player for the Washington Wizards, however this has neither been confirmed nor denied.

Shaq has asked the media to respect his family's privacy during this difficult time.
