Los Angeles - Brad Pitt Donating $100,000 to Fight Ban on Gay Marriages

LATimes.com is reporting that Brad Pitt announced today that he will be donating $100,000 to fight the ban against gay marriages in California.  Pitt's donation will be used to fight California's Proposition 8.  California Proposition 8 is a November ballot initiative that would eliminate same sex couples' right to marry.

When asked about his feeling regarding Proposition 8, Pitt said, "...no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8."

Brad Pitt's donation is the highest donation made by a leading celebrity to combat California Proposition 8.  In recent weeks, thousands of dollars have been donated by supporters on both sides of the issue.

According to the Los Angeles times, "The measure was placed on the ballot after the California Supreme Court invalidated the state's prohibition on same-sex marriage in May."
