Missing Oregon Child Found in Grandparents' Home

In Woodburn, Oregon a very concerned couple recently phone emergency services to report that their one year old granddaughter was missing.   Shortly after the call, police ensued on a massive search to find the baby girl.  However, their search was put to a quick halt when they discovered that the 1 year old was in a crawlspace beneath the grandparents' home.

Police report that they are uncertain as to how the child made it into the 12 inch high space.  The space is directly beneath the bedroom where she was last seen.

Authorities were able to find the child when they heard coughing noises beneath the bedroom floor.  They were clearing the room when they began to hear the noise and discovered a small hole along a wall that led directly to the crawlspace.  They immediately ripped up the flooring and that is when they found the child.

Police told news sources that the girl was dirty when she was found and that the crawlspace was filled with rat feces, but overall, the child was in good health.

The girl was removed from her grandparents' home and placed in state custody.  The police also removed the child's siblings who are 3 and 5 years of age.  State officials are expected to investigate the matter further in upcoming weeks.
