Tennessee Ex-Teacher Jailed after Child Custody Battle

In Knoxville, Tennessee, a former state teacher has been jailed for contempt of court.   The ex-teacher, Erin McLean, was arrested after she prevented her ex-husband from seeing their two children.

McLean and her ex-husband were involved in an ongoing child custody dispute that had progressed to the Tennessee state courts.

Court officials disclosed that Knox County Circuit Court Judge Bill Swan sentenced McLean this past Monday to 75 days in jail for illegally keeping her sons away from their father, Eric McLean, for months at a time.  She is expected to begin serving her jail sentence immediately for violating Eric McLean's father's rights.

Prior to his wife's arrest, Eric McLean was waiting to stand trial for shooting his ex-wife's teenage lover, Sean Powell.  The shooting left Powell fatally wounded.  The McLean's children were living with their father in Austin, Texas at the time of the shooting.

When asked about the shooting, Eric McLean claimed it was an accident.  He was convicted of homicide in September 2008.  To date, he has completed 71 days of his prison sentence.
